The Hospital Impact of a Multigenerational Nursing Staff

Nurses are the largest number of employees in any hospital, and as such, we are a diverse group. We are not only multicultural, but we are multigenerational; some of us have retired and returned to work, some of us just finished college, and many of us fall in between. Our life's experiences make us different, and sometimes that difference can cause problems, particularly in communication.

I was honored recently to be asked to provide an article for Hospital Impact, a website dedicated to information for hospital executives, administrators and managers. I decided to tackle the generational differences in the nursing staff.  Take a look, see where you fall: veteran, baby boomer, Gen X or Gen Y. Let us know your suggestions for better communication with and between members of the nursing staff.
