At Gonzaga University, students will learn how to properly integrate their knowledge of research, theory, communications, and technology into a professional nursing role. An environment of both collaboration and therapeutic learning and teaching styles is fostered so that students are able to be sensitive to patients and families. In addition, students will learn how to assume professional accountability as well as responsibility through many different practices including critical thinking, reflective practice, and the use of ethical and legal standards. During the first two years of the program, students will complete the core classes as well as standard nursing prerequisites. Once their sophomore year has ended, students will then attempt to enter the upper division of the BSN program. This portion is very competitive, and not all students will be admitted. Each candidate will be evaluated on their portfolio thus far, including a resume, recommendations, personal essay, and of course their cumulative GPA score. Once students are admitted into the upper division, they can begin clinical coursework as well as hands on training. All of this is designed to properly and fully prepare graduates for their practices as a professional nurse.
